Zero Inventory, Zero Hassle: How HandsDrop Makes Handmade Dropshipping a Reality

I'm interested in selling custom handmade products, but I don't want to hold inventory.

We hear this a lot. Custom products aren’t suited for bulk stocking in the first place—after all, every piece is unique. But without inventory, it can feel like there’s no way to run an e-commerce business. This contradiction has stopped many sellers from entering the space.

HandsDrop’s dropshipping model is built to solve exactly this problem.

How it works

In one sentence: you focus on selling, we handle production and fulfillment.

Once a customer places an order in your Shopify store, the customization details and order information are automatically sent to HandsDrop’s production system. The factory produces the item according to the requirements and ships it directly to the customer. Tracking information is then synced back to Shopify automatically.

Throughout the entire process, you don’t need to hold inventory, manage warehousing, or deal with shipping logistics yourself.

Dropshipping itself isn’t new—this model has long been mature in standard e-commerce. What HandsDrop does differently is applying it to custom handmade products, something that was traditionally considered difficult to scale.

What sellers need to do (from listing to getting paid)

Select products and import them: Choose products (e.g. wool felt items, jewelry, ceramics, leather crafts) inside the HandsDrop app and click “Add to Store.” Product details and customization options will sync to your Shopify store automatically.

Set your pricing: HandsDrop provides a suggested retail price, but you can adjust it based on your brand and audience. It’s recommended to leave enough margin first, then benchmark against similar products in the market.

Drive traffic: Marketing is handled by you—content, ads, SEO, and social media all work. Your goal is to bring potential buyers to your product pages.

Wait for orders: Once a customer places an order, everything is automatically synced to HandsDrop. Production starts without any manual action required from you.

Automatic fulfillment tracking: After production, the factory ships directly to the customer. Tracking numbers are automatically synced back to Shopify, and customers receive shipping notifications.

Expected profit margins

Take custom wool felt keychains as an example. HandsDrop’s supply cost is typically around $30–$50 (including basic customization), while similar products on Etsy or Shopify are commonly priced at $80–$100.

After platform fees and ad costs, the remaining profit margin is still reasonable.

Profitability varies by category. You can check detailed pricing for each product in the HandsDrop app and decide based on your traffic costs and positioning.

Who is this for

  • New sellers with limited budget who want to avoid upfront inventory risk
  • Experienced sellers looking to expand product lines without managing supply chains
  • Content creators on Instagram, Pinterest, or TikTok who have audience but lack stable supply
  • Gift-focused sellers—custom gifts are naturally made-to-order, making dropshipping a better fit than traditional inventory models

Shopify vs. Etsy: key differences

Both platforms can work with HandsDrop, but the workflows are different.

Shopify sellers: fully automated

First, install the app: Shopaw Product Options (POD).

When adding products, everything (images, descriptions, customization options) syncs automatically to your Shopify store.

When orders come in, all customization inputs (text, colors, uploaded images) are sent directly to the factory. After shipping, tracking numbers are synced back automatically.

In short, once your products are live, the process runs almost entirely on autopilot.

Etsy and other platforms: manual workflow (for now)

If you sell on Etsy, Amazon, TikTok Shop, or eBay, the current process is manual:

  • Contact HandsDrop support to get started
  • After receiving an order, submit it manually via: https://giftstore.shopawapp.com/
  • Fill in product details, customization requirements, and shipping address
  • Once shipped, manually add the tracking number back to your platform

Compared to Shopify, this adds a few extra steps per order, especially at higher volumes.

What’s coming next

For high-volume sellers on Etsy and other platforms, HandsDrop is developing:

  • Bulk order upload via Excel/CSV
  • Direct manual order creation inside the dashboard

These features will be announced once available.

Recommendations

If Shopify is your main platform, install the app and automate everything from day one.

If you primarily sell on Etsy or other platforms, start with a few manual orders to test the workflow. As your volume grows, you can optimize further when bulk tools are released.

Running both Shopify and Etsy together is also a common strategy—many sellers use Shopify as their main store while leveraging Etsy for additional traffic, with HandsDrop supporting both.
